Elon Musk further promotes ‘everything app’ by testing video game streaming capabilities

X, formerly known as Twitter, is taking another step toward becoming an “everything app” as Elon Musk tested out video game streaming on the platform. In a 50-minute-long stream on October 6, Musk played the popular online action role-playing game Diablo 4. Musk outlined that the goal of this test was to ensure that the audio, video, and comments all functioned properly. Despite being in the early stages of development, the stream quality remained consistent throughout, and Musk expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the developers.

Towards the end of the stream, Musk answered some questions from viewers and provided more insights into X’s future plans. He revealed that they intend to include streaming for Xbox and PS5, stating that while other specialized apps may excel in certain areas, X aims to be the best generalist app, allowing users to interact with the largest number of people in the world. However, he did not disclose any details about integrating payments or cryptocurrencies with streaming features such as subscriptions or donations.

The stream received significant attention, with 2.8 million viewers within hours after the session ended. Musk’s tweet announcing the stream also garnered 9.3 million views and over 5,300 retweets. This tremendous interest demonstrates the potential for X to expand its user base and appeal to a broader audience.

This development aligns with X’s rebranding from Twitter in July, as Musk plans to transform the platform into an “everything app” that incorporates various social media functions and supports financial services, including cryptocurrencies. In line with this focus, X has introduced a revenue sharing model for X Premium subscribers and added features allowing users to post videos and content directly on the platform.

While X’s foray into video game streaming is still in its early stages, it showcases the platform’s potential to diversify its offerings and become a multifunctional app catering to the evolving needs and preferences of its users. By integrating gaming and potentially other entertainment features, X could further solidify its position as a go-to platform for users to connect, discover, and engage with a vast number of people worldwide.

As X continues to expand its capabilities and offerings, it will be interesting to see how it integrates payments and cryptocurrencies into its streaming services. This move could open up new opportunities for streamers and creators to monetize their content, while also providing users with a more seamless and comprehensive experience. With Musk at the helm, X is poised to become a prominent player in the app market, revolutionizing the way users engage with various forms of media and entertainment.
