Telstra Outage Hits Australians, as Sydney, Melbourne Users Unable to Make Calls
By Jessica Wang
Frustrated Telstra customers have taken to Twitter to complain about a major service outage, with users across the country struggling to make phone calls.
Customers on one of Australia’s biggest telecommunication networks have complained of being unable to make phone calls.
Complaints began as of 6am on Tuesday morning, with customers reporting they’re unable to make calls to mobiles also on the Telstra network. While the call appears to go through, it is then disconnected once the receiver picks up.
Several Telstra customers have complained about being unable to make calls.
As of 9.30am, a Telstra spokesperson told news.com.au that the issue has been resolved.
“An issue affecting calls for some of our mobile customers this morning has been fixed and services are progressively coming back online. Calls to Triple Zero, data and texts were not affected,” they said.
“We’re sorry for the bad start to the morning and we thank everyone for their patience.”
On the website Downdetector – which charts mobile, internet and online outages – users said attempts to make calls were disconnected.
The issue has been reported by customers in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Outages across the Telstra network have been reported in most major capital cities.
On social media, customers also complained of connection issues.
“Is there an issue with mobile phones in #lanecove. People can’t call or receive – you can’t report it online as it tells you it will send you a code to verify but you can’t get the code,” one customer tweeted.
@Telstra Are you aware that there has been NO phone signal in Cleve SA 5640, for the past 22 hours??

“@Telstra anyone else having Telstra to Telstra mobile calls failing in Sydney and across the country,” shared another.
Responding to one tweet, a customer service representative for the brand advised a user to: “Pop your device on aeroplane mode for a minute, then turn it off.”
In other comments, they said they were “aware” of the issue, and that their “tech team are working to have this restored asap”.
